Augustine

Augustine holds a legendary place in guitar string history. In the 1940s, Albert Augustine collaborated with the great classical guitarist Andrés Segovia to develop the first nylon guitar strings, replacing the traditional gut strings that had been used for centuries. That breakthrough transformed classical guitar forever, and Augustine has been at the forefront of nylon string manufacturing ever since.

Today, Augustine offers three main series of classical guitar strings, each with distinct tonal characteristics. The Classic series uses a traditional nylon formula with warm, dark tones and a slight opacity in appearance — these are medium tension strings that deliver the rich, full sound many classical players associate with the Augustine name. The Imperial series uses a more modern nylon formula for brighter tone with more volume, also at medium tension. The Regal series shares the Imperial formula but at high tension, offering maximum projection for performance settings.

Each series comes in four color-coded variations that indicate the bass string material and tension. Blue is high tension, Red and Gold are medium tension, and Black is light tension. Blue, Red, and Black sets use silver-plated copper wound basses, while Gold sets feature brass-plated copper wound basses for a distinctly different tonal color.
