Horizon Devices was founded by Misha Mansoor, the guitarist and producer behind Periphery and one of the most influential figures in modern progressive metal. Every Horizon Devices product is designed to solve real problems that Misha encountered in his own playing and recording — and the Progressive Tension guitar strings are the cornerstone of the brand.

The problem with conventional string sets is uneven tension. Standard gauge sets use a linear progression that leaves low strings feeling loose and floppy while high strings feel stiff, especially in drop tunings and extended range setups. Horizon Devices solves this with a mathematically calculated tension curve that delivers balanced, even feel across all strings. The result is consistent response whether you're playing complex chord voicings, fast legato passages, or heavy palm-muted riffs.

Progressive Tension sets are available for 6-string, 7-string, and 8-string electric guitars in multiple gauge configurations, from the standard Progressive Tension set to the Heavy 6 (Misha's personal preference at 10-58 gauge) and Ultra Heavy 7 for players who tune low. The strings are made from premium nickel-plated steel with a bright, articulate tone that cuts through dense mixes.

Beyond strings, Horizon Devices also produces the Precision Plectra series of guitar picks — CNC-machined from high-performance thermoplastics for maximum consistency, durability, and tonal clarity. Available in Flow and Jazz III shapes.
