Dampit is the original instrument humidifier and has been protecting wood instruments for over 60 years. A soft rubber tube holds water inside a sponge and releases it slowly, keeping the wood from drying out and cracking during dry weather and central heating.
This is the Clarinet 2nd Joint Dampit (911W), made for the 2nd (lower) joint of the clarinet.
To use it, immerse the Dampit in water for about 20 seconds, pinch the end to remove excess water, gently wipe the outer tube dry and place it inside the instrument. When it is nearly dry, repeat. The Dampit humidity indicator shows the humidity of your room; the optimum level is 45% to 55%.
Store your instrument in the coolest part of the room, away from radiators and heat registers, and use the Dampit only during dry weather or central heating periods.
