Description
The Thomastik-Infeld IN345 is the 5-string long-scale version of the flagship Infeld bass set, engineered as the maker's best all-around modern electric bass string. The construction is unusually layered: an outer Superalloy round winding over an inner pure nickel wrap, all wound around a hexagonal steel core. The Superalloy layer synergizes the benefits of high ferrous content — which drives a strong signal-to-noise ratio and generous output — with the warm, smooth character of nickel underneath. The result is a bass string that reads modern and articulate without ever tipping into brittleness.
Tonally, the IN345 delivers a balanced spread across the frequency spectrum: full, well-rounded lows; throaty, present mids; and solid, brilliant treble that never turns harsh. The .045-.125 gauge adds a proper low B to the standard 4-string set, tuned tight enough to remain focused and articulate rather than flabby — critical for players relying on 5-string bass for low-tuned and modern styles. As a bonus, the Superalloy wrap is noticeably gentler on frets than stainless steel or all-steel strings, extending fret life on well-played basses. Made in Vienna for 34-inch long-scale 5-string basses to Thomastik-Infeld's century-old standards.
