Product Overview
Features
- Plain nylon E and B trebles paired with four chrome steel flatwound strings (G, D, A, low E)
- Wound G-3rd eliminates the tonal step between trebles and basses — smooth, even response across the neck
- Flatwound construction virtually silences finger squeak — ideal for studio recording and amplified classical work
Description
The Thomastik-Infeld CF128 is a Classic N Superlona set built for players who want the smooth, squeak-free character of flatwound basses extended one string higher. Where the standard CF127 pairs three nylon trebles with three flatwound basses, the CF128 replaces the plain nylon G with a chrome steel flatwound G-3rd (.027), leaving only the E and B as plain nylon. The result is a more uniform response across the neck, with none of the abrupt tonal shift some players find between a plain nylon G and a wound D.
The four flatwound strings deliver the series' signature warm, mellow, and exceptionally smooth tone, with position shifts and slides staying virtually silent under the microphone. Precision-engineered in Vienna and normal-tension across the set, the CF128 is easy under the fingers, holds tuning well, and is a longstanding favorite among classical and fingerstyle players who value long string life alongside studio-quiet basses.
